Some skinns from E-Dragon

THANK YOU!

I guess that the people here don't make enough money with out extorting more money from members. I update my software, all goes fine except in order to to update deskscapes I have to uninstall it. fine I do, then when it goes to install the newer version, SLAP!. Oops my supscription has expired... So basically they get you to remove a perfically good (and running) program and THEN tell you "Oh yea, by the way, if you want that new version you gotta pay us AGAIN....  I guess it is wrong of them to warn prople that that would happen.. So right now I have no deskscapes and no $$$ to BUY your update and when I do I kinda doubt I will. Why? Because I've been shelling out lots of $$$ to you guys for a LOT of years and am getting sick of doing so, it not worth the few dollors you take off for current members to renew. Now with this sad deception of letting people uninstall perfically good programs and forcing them to buy the new one... Well, I'm just won't support a company that screws its patrons over and am sorry that I did for all these years...

So if this is the case you should know that updates aren't forever and after a given amount of time newer versions require you to pay for updates. I believe that anybody who is familiar with Stardock and practically any other software maker should know that. You think that they are in business to give things away?

You know that you can re install the version you were using don't you? Send them an email and they'll give you links to all your purchased software. I see no reason why you can't re install.

Jeez, I'm sick of people looking for something for nothing and using software they really no nothing about. Quit complaining.

HE HE - I've complained myself a few times.

If you archived your Deskscape (prior copy) or perhaps have a backup, restoring shouldn't be hard. If not, you can ask Support at SD to provide you with a link to your prior software copy (when you had a valid subscription) and I'm pretty sure they'll help.

You might consider asking nicely when you do....and take it easy on your Coronaries, E_Dragon...it's only pixels in the end.

That may not be the case. This post states that Stardock no longer supplies links, once you subscription expires.

This is true.  We no longer provide archives for expired subs.

The issue here is that you bought a subscription, not a standalone application.  When the subscription expires, you lose access to updates.  Because you tried to update to something you didn't have access to, the app was lost in what would have been a normal update had the subscription been active.  If you don't want to worry about the subscriptions, we offer the Object Desktop apps as stand alone products, but you'll be paying well over the $34.95 renewal price to get all the apps (this is the reason most people choose Object Desktop).

Is it possible to make Impulse detect that(expired sub) and block the update process, preventing this sort of issue? Just wondering.

No, or at least not yet.  However, this is a nice reminder that you're missing out on updates by not renewing

So asking for a disclaimer is too much? That's all, I'm NOT asking for FREE updates, where did I say or imply that?

Let me ask you this.... Why not have a disclaimer/cancel screen BEFORE you update stating that you will loose your programs and HAVE to resubscribe to use the new ones? Oh I know the can put in the licence agreement (the one that they know pretty much no one reads) So I guess in YOUR world it's ok to pester someone TO update then say; opps  by the way did we mention that now that we did bug you into updating... Pay us, cause nothin will work if you don't...

BTW I've been supporting them since 2002. how long have you?

So if I pay more to buy them one by one, no problem, updates are free? But buy them all at once and pay yearly to update them. So how does it save money ? Sure it's a bit less then one by one BUT over the years it costs WAY more. Lets see if I did update EVERY year since 2002 @ (roughly) $32.00 it would be : $288.00

Anyone want to add up the cost of each program?

E_Dragon...this thread is over a year old.

It appears that quite a few people are having trouble getting thier software to activate this weekend. It could have something to do with the Game Stop purchase of Impulse. (If you're not aware, Impulse was sold to Game Stop earlier this month)

Since today is a holiday, I would wait until tomorrow and see if the problem is resolved.

There is no need in getting upset. If the problem's not resolved tomorrow, I would check with tech support to see if they can assist you in getting deskscapes going again.

Also, keep in mind that you are dealing with people that have feelings...being nice goes a long way in getting people to help you.

Yes, this thread is over 12 months old.

It's topic is either resolved or redundant.  Either way it is irrelevant.

If there is a CURRENT problem re Software subscriptions and/or updates I would suggest posting a NEW thread indicating the issue in the 'Support' section of the Forums, and/or contact support@stardock.com
